   Sammanfattning : Bakgrunden till denna uppsats är intresset för varför det finns klasskillnader utbildningsnivå och i skolbarns utbildningsaspirationer i Sverige. Med utgångspunkt i Bourdieus teorier om utbildningssystemet och teorier om rationella val, samt med longitudinella data från Levnadsnivåundersökningarna, har två delsyften undersökts: (1) betydelsen av skolbarns utbildningsaspirationer, kulturella kapital och självförtroende för deltagande i högre studier, samt om klasskillnader i dessa faktorer delvis kan förklara klasskillnader i deltagande i högre studier, och (2) om klasskillnader i utbildningsaspirationer delvis kan förklaras av klasskillnader i kulturellt kapital och/eller i självförtroende, samt vilka faktorer som kan påverka utbildningsaspirationer.
