  1. 1. Vegetation responses to summer- and winter warming : flower power in the Alaskan tussock tundra?

    Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Maja Wressel; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Arctic vegetation; snow depth; warming; vertical root distribution; tundra;

    Sammanfattning : Plants have an important role in the tundra carbon (C) cycle by storing C in primary production and thus potentially counteract the C released from thawing permafrost. Tundra vegetation is limited by nitrogen (N), which is predicted to increase with rising temperatures and increased snow depth. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Snow layer mapping by remote sensing from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles : A mixed method study of sensor applications for research in Arctic and Alpine environments

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Maskinkonstruktion (Inst.)

    Författare :Martin Isacsson; [2018]
    Nyckelord :UAV; Drones; Snow; Remote Sensing; Sensors; Arctic; Alpine; Mapping; UAV; Drönare; Snö; Fjärranalys; Sensorer; Arktis; Alpin; Kartläggning;

    Sammanfattning : Examensarbetet presenterat i den här rapporten utfördes i syfte att kartlägga vilka sensorer och metoder som skulle kunna vara tillämpbara inom kartläggning av snölager i den arktiska regionen. För att göra den bedömningen har flera olika metoder använts. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Making ASN.1 (Abstract Syntax Notation One) human-readable : Investigative and practical study to generalize decoding and manual validation of ASN.1 from the cellular network during run time

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på grundnivå, Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för system- och rymdteknik

    Författare :Emil Jilläng; [2018]
    Nyckelord :ASN1; Abstract Syntax Notation One; Human-readable; ANTLR; Telecommunication;

    Sammanfattning : ASN.1 is a powerful formal notation divided into two parts, a specification of the data and the data itself in binary form. Creating decoders for these files can often be tedious. The purpose of this degree work is to extend current tools at Arctic Group to make an application that decodes a range of different ASN. 4. 4. Ancient DNA in paleosols, SW Greenland : A tool for retrospective paleoenvironmental studies?

    Kandidat-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Kimmo Kumpula; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Ancient DNA; paleosol; paleoenvironment; Greenland; Arctic;

    Sammanfattning : Ancient DNA (aDNA) is a useful tool for retrospective paleoenvironmental studies. Paleosols formed in Arctic environments constitute a potential archive of aDNA from terrestrial organisms living in past environments, given that the cold and dry climate prevailing at high latitudes favors DNA preservation and hamper post-depositional mobility of deposited fragments. 5. 5. Hydrologic modelling of the Zackenberg river basin : an applied study using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Malin Ahlbäck; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Greenland; SWAT; High Arctic; Distributed Hydrologic Modelling; GIS; surface Water; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Since the 1980s, the Arctic has experienced an amplified warming of more than twice the rate of the global-mean, leading to large-scale changes in the Arctic hydrologic system, ultimately having cascading feedbacks on the global climate. However, few of today’s distributed models manage to capture the complex processes in Arctic hydrology, and therefore, the aim of this thesis was to evaluate the usage of the distributed Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model, to see whether it could capture the different surface water paths and processes characterizing the Arctic water cycle.
