    Sammanfattning : Den 11 augusti 1806 i Skänninge, på Olofsmässomarknadens första dag, öppnade den preussiske medborgaren Jean Baptiste Gautier dörrarna till stadens rådhus för att visa upp en elefant mot betalning.
