  1. 1. Wall-Resolved and Wall-Modelled LES for a NACA4412 Wing Profile in OpenFOAM

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Författare :Nikolaos Charisoudis; [2024]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study is to perform computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulationfor an incompressible flow around an airfoil and investigate the aerodynamicproperties for different Reynolds numbers (400, 000 and 1, 000, 000) based on the chordlength, at the moderate angle of attack (AoA) of 5o . For this purpose a detailedevaluation of wall-resolved and wall-modelled large-eddy simulations (LES) wereconducted for the NACA4412 wing profile. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in 3-D to model gas flow in a room

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Avdelningen för beräkningsvetenskap

    Författare :Fredrik Malmström; [2024]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis proposes to model the flow of gases in a room by solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in three dimensions. The transportationof scalars such as temperature and concentration of CO2 is modeled by solving the advection-diffusion equation, and the effects of temperature on thevelocity is accounted for by employing the Boussinesq approximation. 3. 3. Multiscale & Multiphysics Modelling of Thrust Pad (Air) Bearings

    Master-uppsats, Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för teknikvetenskap och matematik

    Författare :Nipon Roy; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Finite element modelling; Air bearing; Multiphysics simulations; Air lubrication; surface texture; Topology optimization;

    Sammanfattning : Without lubrication, machines are not imaginable to perform over a long period of time and complete their designated operations. With its omnipresent availability, the air is capable of functioning as a lubricant in long operations very efficiently. Moreover, thrust bearings support axial loads and transmit power at the same time under heavy loads. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Using GPU-aware message passing to accelerate high-fidelity fluid simulations

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Författare :Jacob Wahlgren; [2022]
    Nyckelord :high-performance computing; computational fluid dynamics; spectral element method; graphical processing units; message passing interface; högprestandaberäkningar; beräkningsströmningsdynamik; spektralelementmetoden; grafikprocessorer; meddelandeförmedlingsgränssnitt;

    Sammanfattning : Motivated by the end of Moore’s law, graphics processing units (GPUs) are replacing general-purpose processors as the main source of computational power in emerging supercomputing architectures. A challenge in systems with GPU accelerators is the cost of transferring data between the host memory and the GPU device memory. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Verification of the fluid dynamics modules of the multiphysics simulation framework MOOSE : A work to test a candidate software for molten salt reactor analysis

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Författare :Erik Gustafsson; [2022]
    Nyckelord :molten salt reactor MSR ; small modular reactor SMR ; computational fluid dynamics CFD ; multiphysics; MOOSE;

    Sammanfattning : This is a report of a verification study of the multiphysics simulation framework MOOSE which was preformed at the company Seaborg Technologies. In the process of designing molten salt reactors there is a special need of making credible multiphysics simulations since the fuel is in motion. LÄS MER
