    Sammanfattning : Using Mauritania as a case study this thesis compares the decline of two forms of coercive labour, slavery and servitude, to understand how masters’ incentives differ depending on property right and thus affect conditions for decline.     Sammanfattning : The thesis examines whether there is an obligation for states to not recognise foreign child marriages and whether child marriages are prohibited through the prohibitions against slavery, servitude or servile marriage. Due to this conception, dating back from the servitude and slavery systems of the colonial era, and rooted in the patriarchal structure of societies, domestic workers have struggled, and still struggle today in many countries to see their rights recognised.
