6. Surface crevasses on Svalbard: Spatial Distribution Analysis with Focus on the Lomonosovfonna Ice Cap
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : Understanding the formation mechanics of glacial crevasses is crucial in a variety of glacial applications. Besides being a serious safety hazard during field campaigns, crevasses influence calving rates, mass balance, and the hydrological network of glaciers. LÄS MER
7. A Regional Analysis of Changing Climate Conditions and Glacier Mass Balance in Svalbard
Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : The Arctic archipelago of Svalbard has experienced among the greatest increases in temperature on Earth in the last few decades. The changing climatic conditions have a large impact on the glacier mass balance. This study makes use of a highresolution model dataset with data on climatic and glacier conditions on Svalbard from 1957 to 2018. LÄS MER
8. The spatial growth pattern and directional properties of Dryas octopetala on Spitsbergen, Svalbard
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskapSammanfattning : Exposed, well-drained and nutrient poor areas on Spitsbergen are mainly covered by a plant alliance typical for Svalbard, the Caricion nardinae. Caricion nardinae is a circum-polar alliance, which is dominated by the creeping, ever-green dwarf-shrub Dryas octopetala. LÄS MER
9. Seasonal Velocities on Nordenskiöldbreen, Svalbard
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : Global warming leads to increased precipitation in the Arctic, as warmer air can carry more moisture. The consequence is that many arctic glaciers get steeper slopes over time as increased melt at their lower part causes thinning and increased solid precipitation in their upper regions leads to thickening of the glacier. 10. Investigating methods for identifying paleo surge-type glaciers or highly dynamical ice flows in Trygghamn, west Spitsbergen
Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografiSammanfattning : Surge-type glaciers exhibit a cyclic behaviour with an ice mass increase in the reservoir area during the inactive, quiescent phase and a rapid transportation of ice during the active, surge phase. In order to interpret the effects of climate change correctly it is important to distinguish between advances of surge-type glaciers and those of ‘normal’ glaciers, caused by climatic fluctuations.
