  1. 1. Surface and Subsurface Flow Connection and Dominating Runoff Mechanism in Hillslope of Tarfala, Northern Sweden.

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Författare :Namika Maharjan; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Advanced Terrestrial Simulator ATS ; hillslope connectivity; tracer test; hydrological modeling; parameter analysis; sub artic regions; hillslope hydrology;

    Sammanfattning : The Sub artic regions are becoming increasingly important due to the effects of climate change. In northern Sweden, thawing of permafrost has led to significant increases in annual minimum flows in several catchments. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Estimated Input of Mercury to Kusawa Lake, Northern Canada, from Snow and Glacial Melt Water

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Ingrid Beckholmen; [2016]
    Nyckelord :Mercury; HBV-model; Kusawa Lake; Canada; runoff; glaciers; Kvicksilver; HBV-model; Kusawa Lake; Kanada; avrinning; glaciärer;

    Sammanfattning : Unusually high levels of mercury (Hg) have been detected in several northern Canadian lakes, remote from human industrial activities. At Kusawa Lake, a subalpine glacier-fed mountain lake situated in the Yukon Territory (western Canada), measurements of Hg in caught fish are below, but worryingly close to, the Health Canada guideline for safe fish consumption of 0. 3. 3. Trends in high peak flow generation across the Swedish Subarctic

    Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi

    Författare :Bettina Matti; [2015]
    Nyckelord :flood generation; extreme events; climate change; Sweden; Subarctic; trend analysis; flood frequency analysis;

    Sammanfattning : There is growing concern for increased frequency of extreme events due to several severe floods and droughts occurring globally in recent years. Improving knowledge on the complexity of hydrological systems and interactions with climate is essential to be able to determine drivers and predict changes in the future. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Atmospheric mercury deposition in alpine snow, northern British Columbia and southwestern Yukon, Canada

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Pia Karlsson; [2014]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : High mercury (Hg) levels have been measured in fish in Kusawa Lake (KL), a subalpine, partly glacier-fed lake situated in the southwestern Yukon, Canada, but it is presently unknown where this Hg comes from. One possible source may be atmospheric deposition of Hg in snow and subsequent release by melt into the lake. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The suitability of using Landsat TM-5 Images for estimating chromophoric dissolved organic matter in subarctic Lakes

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Julia Jakobsson; [2014]
    Nyckelord :CDOM; dissolved organic carbon; colored dissolved organic matter; Chromophoric; landsat thematic mapper 5; subarctic lakes; Stordalen; empirical algorithm.; Abisko; DOC; remote sensing; Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Recent trends of permafrost thawing in the subarctic are expected to cause increased release of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to inland waters, which might have cascading effects on downstream aquatic ecosystems and release of CO2 to the atmosphere. This study therefore aimed at evaluating the applicability of an empirical band ratio algorithm for estimating chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM; a proxy for DOC) from the easily accessible satellite images Landsat TM-5, to counter the inaccessibility of the region in general.
