  1. 1. Misalignment effects on the physics performance of the inner tracker upgrade at the ALICE experiment

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Författare :Jesper Karlsson Gumprecht; [2024]
    Nyckelord :ALICE; ITS; ITS2; ITS3; O2; O2Physics; Distortion; Misalignment; Alignment; Realignment; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the physics performance of an approved inner tracker upgrade of the ALICE experiment involving a novel and ultra-thin silicon detector with a cylindrical geometry. During the thesis work, a method was developed in simulations to induce distortions to the detector’s geometry, and the resulting loss in physics performance was evaluated. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fitting a photospheric prompt emission model to GRB data: The Kompaneets RMS approximation (KRA)

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Fysik

    Författare :Oscar Wistemar; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Gamma-Ray Bursts; Astrophysics; Engineering Physics; Gamma-Blixtar; Astrofysik; Teknisk Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are some of the most energetic events in the universe. Shocks occurring below the photosphere are likely radiation mediated shocks (RMSs) and are suspected to shape the spectra. Due to computational costs of simulating RMSs, models had not been fitted to data and a faster model was needed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Glauber Monte Carlo for proton-proton and virtual-photon-proton collisions

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Oscar Sepp; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : In high energy physics, we want to probe the inner structures and behaviours of the particles that are the building blocks of our universe. This is often done by colliding nuclei together. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Robust light source detection for AUV docking

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Författare :Joar Edlund; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Autonomous Underwater Vehicle; Docking; Detection; Poseestimation; Visual Navigation; Autonoma Undervattensfordon; Dockning; Detektering; Positionsestimering; Visuell Navigation;

    Sammanfattning : For Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) to be able to conduct longterm surveys, the ability to return to a docking station for maintenance and recharging is crucial. A dynamic docking system where a slowly moving submarine acts as the docking station provides increased hydrodynamic control and reduces the impact of environmental disturbances. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Monitoring of Partial Discharges on Cable Terminations : An experimental approach to evaluate non-conventional online PD measurement techniques

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Författare :Tony Sibo; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Monitoring; Partial discharges; Medium-voltage cable terminations; Sensor performance; Reliability evaluation; Infrared camera IR-camera ; Ultrasonic emission sensor AE-sensor ; Temperature and relative humidity sensor TRH-sensor ; High frequency current transformer HFCT ; Transient earth voltage antenna TEV-antenna ; Conventional VS non-conventional PD measurement techniques; Övervakning; Partiella urladdningar; Mellanspänningskabelslut; Evaluering av sensorprestanda; Utvärdering av systemets tillförlitlighet; Infraröd kamera; Ultraljudssensor; Temperatur- och relativ fuktighetssensor; Högfrekvent strömtransformator; Transient jordspänningsantenn; Konventionella vs icke-konventionella mättekniker;

    Sammanfattning : The transmission of electric power over long distances has historically posed challenges. However, the advent of high-voltage engineering has not only addressed distance barriers and power losses in electricity transmission and distribution, but it has also significantly improved the efficiency and transmission capacity of power grids.
