  1. 1. If Trees Could Talk - Dendrochemistry, a Promising Method for Understanding Pollution History

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Jonatan Uusitalo; [2023-08-17]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Heavy metal pollution presents a significant environmental challenge in the Anthropocene era, and understanding pollution history is crucial to address historical pollution and implementing effective mitigation measures. This study stands among a few comprehensive dendrochemical investigations that utilized an extensive dataset and energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) technique to reconstruct the contamination history of As, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn, with a focus on Cu. 2. 2. CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE NORWAY SPRUCE TREELINE IN THE CENTRAL SCANDINAVIAN MOUNTAINS Treeline evolution, tree growth and a Blue Intensity summer temperature reconstruction

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Fredrik Karlsson; [2022-09-01]
    Nyckelord :Treeline evolution; Tree growth; Norway spruce; central Scandinavian mountains; Blue Intensity;

    Sammanfattning : In the context of global change, mountain regions have received increased interest in recent times with researchers trying to answer how such regions may be affected by a changing climate. Treeline environments are sensitive to the impacts of climate change which may significantly alter the characteristics of the regions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Elemental variability in tree-rings as indicator for climate change : a case study on beech and oak trees at the Laacher See, Germany

    Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi

    Författare :Ann-Kathrin Wild; [2022]
    Nyckelord :trace elements; tree-rings; dendrochemistry; dendroclimatology; ITRAX; Laacher See; mofettes; tree-bark; Quercus sp.; Fagus sp.;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to contribute to the comprehension of the connection of element uptake in trees at the Laacher See in Germany and climatic parameters on different time scales. Understanding the relationship of certain elements in trees and temperature might enable the assignment of extraordinary high peaks in the elemental concentration, which cannot be explained by temperature, to another process as CO2 degassing of the mofettes, which are relics of the volcanic past of the lake. 4. 4. Climate – Tree-Growth Relationships in Central Sweden : An Evaluation of the Palmer Drought Severity Index as a Tool for Reconstructing Moisture Variability

    Master-uppsats, Institutionen för naturgeografi och kvartärgeologi (INK)

    Författare :Inga Labuhn; [2009]
    Nyckelord :dendroclimatology; PDSI; drought; precipitation; reconstruction; tree rings; Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : A tree-ring width chronology from Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) was constructed from a xeric site in Stockholm to investigate the relationships between climate and tree growth and to reconstruct past moisture variability. The measure of moisture conditions employed here is a self-calibrating Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Brand i Fulufjällets nationalpark : en brandhistorisk analys med förslag för framtida skötsel

    L3-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Forest Ecology and Management

    Författare :Jenny Sander; [2005]
    Nyckelord :brand; Pinus sylvestris; dendrokronologi; brandkontroll; Dalarna;

    Sammanfattning : Fire has historically been of great ecological importance in the boreal forests of Sweden. The forest fire regime has, however, varied between different parts of the country. The objective of this thesis is therefore to investigate the fire history in Fulufjället National Park and, on this basis, give suggestions for future fire management. LÄS MER
