1. Salt tolerant horticultural plants to save freshwater usage
Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Plant Protection BiologySammanfattning : As freshwater becomes scarce worldwide due to climate change and population increases, there is an urgent need to develop innovative approaches to address the issue of reducing freshwater consumption. Selecting species with high ornamental value and salt tolerance for use as green hedges or bonsai in urban or coastal areas could be a strategic approach for promoting greening and maintaining water resource sustainability. 2. Assessing the Impacts of Climate Change and Water Scarcity on Agricultural Practices in Kenya -Implications for Adaptation Strategies
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskapSammanfattning : Like other African countries, Kenya’ economy and food security is heavily dependent on agriculture. Climate change has led to variability in temperature and precipitation, and extreme weather events such as droughts and floods, all of which can significantly impact crop productivity and food security in the long-term. 3. Potential policy projects for decreasing fluoride concentrations in the groundwater of Aguascalientes, Mexico : a cost-benefit analysis
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Aquatic Sciences and AssessmentSammanfattning : Reductions in groundwater quality due to aquifer depletion is a growing issue globally and will become more prominent with continued climate change and population growth. Dry regions are particularly vulnerable to this issue due to their reliance on groundwater for water supply. LÄS MER
4. The impact of rainwater harvesting and fertilizer micro-dosing on farm and household sustainability in rural Tanzania
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of EconomicsSammanfattning : Food insecurity and poverty are of major concern for farmers in Tanzania, and the technologies rainwater harvesting coupled with fertilizer micro-dosing promise to aid in easing these burdens, particularly in a water-limited context. In this study, I performed an ex-post assessment of the impact of these two innovations in the sustainability of households and farms, in two contrasting regions of Tanzania semi-arid Dodoma and semi-humid Morogoro, to see if they would be relevant to promote in the country. 5. Effectiveness of Barrier Well by Pumping Ratio Control for Saltwater Intrusion: Lab-Scale Experiments and Numerical Modeling
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresursläraSammanfattning : Saltwater intrusion is the most challenging problem in coastal regions. To prevent saltwater intrusion, saltwater pumping from a barrier well is widely applied, which is a direct abstraction of intruded saltwater from a coastal aquifer. Owing to its easy installation, many studies have been carried out. LÄS MER
