    Sammanfattning : The collections of the Vasa Museum in Stockholm Sweden not only include the world’s only complete 17th century warship, the famous Vasa who sank on her maiden voyage outside Stockholm in the summer of 1628, but also a unique and extensive collection of dress artifacts, fragments from clothes in textile and leather recovered during the excavation of the ship. This study aims to present historical narratives about the labour, knowledge of craft and everyday life of the ship’s crew by analysing leather mittens and other types of artifacts related to the work on board as material culture, aided by early modern Dutch depictions in art showing work being done on large ships contemporary with Vasa.     Sammanfattning : Det råder ovisshet om hur väl Vasaskeppet kan klara att bära upp sin egentyngd i framtiden, men vad som är klart är att den befintliga stöttningen inte anses tillräcklig för att avlasta och motverka deformationer och försvagningar i skeppets trä. Vasamuseet, där skeppet står, är ett välbesökt turistmål, vilket innebär att en kollaps skulle medföra stora risker för personskador och i värsta fall förlust av liv. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The master’s thesis is focused around the mounting of an inner support structure to the Swedish warship Vasa and was given by Camatec Industriteknik AB. The Swedish warship Vasa is one of the greatest national treasures of Sweden. The ship was built high and narrow, therefore a small gust of wind made her capsize during her maiden journey. LÄS MER
