Sammanfattning: Bus lanes are being built as a measure to increase the share of public transport, thereby reducing congestion and environmental impacts. Evaluations are rarely made and the effects of the measures are therefore, in many cases unknown. It is currently unclear whether there are some general correlations between the Swedish cities where bus lanes have been built. This report examines the general trends of car traffic by studying traffic flows and modal shares for Swedish cities in conjunction with the implementation of bus lanes. The cities examined are, Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg, Jönkoping and Kristianstad. The amount of car traffic has been examined on the streets where the implementation has been made, and in part on nearby streets. The modal share has been compared before and after the implementations was made to see how it was affected. The flows of traffic and modal share were then compared to determine if there are common trends and patterns of the Swedish towns. On the street where a measure has been made, traffic has decreased. Depending on how the measure is implemented, the size of the reduction varied between the cities in the report. The effects on the modal share varies between the studied cities where bus lanes were implemented. In some cases, the proportion of traffic dropped and some cases the increased. There are some similarities between the cities, such as a slight reduce in traffic on the streets where a measure was implemented, as well as a slight increase on adjacent streets. It is not possible to tell exactly what will happen because many other parameters effect the results. The traffic flows and modal shares are therefore affected differently. In the cities where a large measure similar to Amiralsgatan in Malmö were implemented, the analyzed data shows that a reduction in traffic occurred. It is mainly along the streets where the action is implemented that traffic declined, but in some cases, the decline also occurred on the streets extension. Along the adjacent streets, traffic has to some extent increased and is likely due to a shift of traffic. In the cities where the smaller measures, similar to those in Jönköping, were implemented, the analyzed data shows that an increase in traffic occurred. The traffic along the street where the action was implemented hade in some cases declined, but far from all cases. The traffic in whole hade a big increase in the following years, and the modal shift showed an increase in car traffic. The measures have not led to a change in travel behavior.
