Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Institutionen för kulturgeografi och ekonomisk geografi

Sammanfattning: The story of Malmö - from industrial city to knowledge city - Will be followed by a new one. The coffee shop explosion in Malmö is examined here from a qualitative approach. Through interviews, observations and discourse analysis. The essay examines the relationship between the coffee shop boom and the City of Malmö's development during the 2000s and analyzes the physical and cultural implications this has had on the city area. Critical realism has been the basis for a synthesis that brought together the case study about coffee shop industry, the City of Malmö future vision and urban policy, reflected in Richard Florida's theory of the creative class and George Ritzers "McDonaldization" theory. The analysis shows the development in the coffee shop industry, where chains and private coffee shops are geographically segregated. The upsurge in itself has been developed based on the discourses which took place in Malmö and gained institutional support and today is the basis in search of an attractive location which would raise the portion of the coffee shop industry that the creative class finds attractive.
