Sammanfattning: This essay has translation of the Bible in view and more specifically inclusive language. I study a new test translation of Galatians, commissioned by the Swedish Bible Society this year. This translation has applied inclusive language and my problem for this essay is: is the Swedish Bible Society ́s test translation of the Galatians a plausible application of inclusive language? To be able to answer this question I use the grammatical method and a set of principles for inclusive translation made by Fredrik Ivarsson. These principles are in summary: to use gendered words only when they were intended in the original communication situation, not to use male words for women or groups where women is included and not to let these principles affect the quality of the language. The material I use is the test translation, the original text in Greek, Fredrik Ivarsson ́s application of inclusive language on Mark, the instructions made by the Swedish Bible Society for the test translation, encyclopedias, bible commentaries etc. My conclusion is that the test translation is a plausible application of inclusive language. It goes well together with Ivarsson ́s principles and shows good examples of inclusive language. On some passages I discuss if a more inclusive translation had been possible and I present a few suggestions of improvement.
