Sammanfattning: Environmental management intend to help organizations improve their environmental performance but have suffered criticism for placing too great a focus on the system rather than on the environmental performance. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how Capio St Göran's Hospital emergency department works on reducing its negative environmental impact regarding the environmental aspects supplies and knowledge of staff, to see what works well and what could be improved. Increased environmental performance in health care is an important issue as health care currently accounts for 10% of Sweden's GDP and therefore constitute a major part of its environmental impact. The study was conducted with a document analysis, interviews and by participant observations. The results showed that the emergency department has deficiencies in its procedures for sorting of wastes belonging to the environmental aspect supplies. It also showed that a too small percentage of employees take part in environmental education. The study shows that these problems can be addressed by increasing the integration of environmental management at a local level and by ensuring that all employees take part of the environmental education. To increase competence and acceptance of environmental management within the organization.
