Sammanfattning: In my thesis work I have explored the relationship between site and building. As the focal point for my studies I have had a, too me, very familiar site in the outskirts of the village of Höör in the centre of Skåne. e site has been the property of my grandfather who took care of the place until he got to old to do it. I spend a lot of time here when visiting my grandparents as a kid. Today my mother and her siblings has inherit the plot. e site is a wooded area with smaller vegetation and large majestic oak-trees, a small pond, a meadow and two small hills. Since my grandfather got to old to keep the site in order, the forest has started to take over more and more. Where there once was nice footpaths and open areas, its today overgrown with small trees and weeds. In my work I explain the history of the area, the municipality’s plans regarding the site, my grandfathers relation to the place, and my own relation to it. I use this information about the site to inform a project in which i propose a future use for the plot. In order to approach how to do architectural work in this kind of site I have turned to the works of several architects and writers. As a point of departure I have used works of Juhani Pallasmaa, Christian Norbert-Schulz and Peter Zumthor. ese writers all write about the importance of place in architecture. In my proposal I have tried to use these lessons and suggest a kind of building that sits well in the site. e intention is that the houses will complement the place and make it more useful than it is today, and help bring out and enhance some of the existing characteristics of the area. e proposed architecture is small single family houses in two stories, halfway dug into the ground. e houses are organised around a few commons suggested by the hills and vegetation of the site. e placement is done to enhance these natural ”rooms” in the area. e housing unit itself is centred around a small court, that gives each house a small private outdoor space. e private courtyard that the shape of the houses creates, also makes it possible to leave the nature outside of the perimiter of the houses more or less untouched. e suggestion is that this area will be accesible to the public, but cared for by the people living in the houses.
