Ombyggnad av Lunds gamla observatorium - utifrån behov, tillgänglighet och brandsäkerhet

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet

Sammanfattning: The old observatory in Lund is a building which is protected by Kulturmiljölagen. The building has been empty for nearly 20 years and is in desperate need of renovation because of its poor condition and doesn´t live up to modern requirement for fire safety and accessibility. The municipality of Lund request suggestions for a new function for the observatory with related changes which could be accepted by the protection regulations. This report’s purpose is to give suggestions for changes which lead to the fact that the building could be used again, adapted to a new area of use. The suggestions should be based on Swedish building laws (KML, PBL, BBR), the protection regulations and they should be economically resonable. An evaluation of the impact of these suggestions on the building’s cultural values will be executed. Further planning as installations, energy and economy calculations will not be presented in this report. This study has been executed in cooperation with the municipality of Lund. A suggestion for a new area of use is to convert the old observatory in Lund to become a technical museum with a café. This function can open the building to the public, keep its historical value and create new history. To convert the observatory to a public building it requires solutions to make it accessible. A suggestion is to place a new accessible entrance in the western section of the building and install an elevator to make the basement approachable. The upper levels are challenging and expensive to make accessible which would induce major interventions, as for that reason the upper levels will not be available to the disabled. The fire safety in the building does not live up to all requirements in BBR but this problem could be compensated with other solutions as the installation of a fire sprinkler system, insulation of doors and ceilings and limitation of the number of visitors. Other changes which are required are upgrading of all finishing layers, installation of a new staircase to the basement and demolition of newer interior walls. Some of the suggestions for changes and solutions go against the building's protection regulations and could be expensive but will result in higher value for the building and secure the old Observatories future use. An evaluation of the impact of the changes needs to be done together with several involved participants to avoid that the building will remain empty and decay.
