Sammanfattning: The following thesis is a quantitative study on sexuality as it relates to gender and desire. By using the Klein Sexual Orientation Grid (KSOG) on a non-representative (snowball) sample, I want to explore ways of “measuring” and understanding sexuality on a quantitative level. My aim is to examine how the respondents’ sexuality is conveyed through KSOG and to what extent that picture corresponds to the normative understanding of sexuality and gender as categorizable into homo-, bi- and heterosexuality. The questionnaire also included questions regarding attitudes towards bisexuals. By researching if sexual identity and attitudes towards bisexual are connected, I want to expand upon Paula C. Rust’s research on non-heterosexual women’s attitudes toward bisexual women. The sample consists of 339 Swedish-speaking persons between 16-59 years of age. Two thirds of the respondents self-identified as women. A majority of those who answered the questionnaire identify to some extent as someone who has same-sex sexual relations. A third had experience of same-sex sexual practice. The “sexual profiles” obtained through KSOG does not easily fit within the sexual categories homo-bi-hetero. The respondents also expressed that they didn’t feel KSOG was detailed enough to capture their sexuality. This points toward a need for new ways of articulating sexuality regarding gender and desire, beyond the rough categories of homo-, bi and heterosexuality, if we truly want to understand sexuality and sexual identity.
