Sammanfattning: The Purpose of this survey was to look at the social meaning of alcohol within a group of young people in the age area 18 to 20. I chose a quantitative survey among youth to investigate attitudes to alcohol habits of other youths. The survey was performed with 96 young persons. Every year the federation of alcohol and drug awareness (CAN) do a nationwide survey of alcohol and drug habits among students in Sweden. In the year 2007 the total consumption per person from ages 15 and up estimated 9,8 litre per person and year. The survey 2008 presented that young men drink more alcohol than young women do. The theories I have chosen in the analysis focus on the importance of the youth to be one in the group and in the society. According to the theory, humans have a strong need to be valued by other people. Human relations deforms by social rolls that tell people how to react and act in different situations. The theories explained hidden social rules that tell how to act in a number of situations. My survey showed that young people did not feel any group pressure to drink alcohol. The survey also showed that alcohol played a big part in the social life of young people.
