Sammanfattning: The purpose behind our study was to analyze people who were born in the 1940s' reflections on life after the age of 60, as well as examining which strategies they had before retirement. The study built on the themes; leisure pursuit and social networks, retirement, life after the age of 60, the future care and the care needs and its mediums. These themes have also provided the base for our interview guide. In order to answer our aims and issues we chose to use a qualitative method. We have interviewed eight people born in the 1940s in order to provide a varied picture of their reflections and strategies for the future. Further we analysed current research and public investigations in order to answer our purpose. We implemented the analysis in two stages, in the first stage we linked earlier research to our empirical study, in stage two we lifted we the empirical study additionally through setting theories and relating concepts. We also based our study on role theories, ageism, the lack of commitment theory and the activity theory. Our results showed that our respondents did not separate themselves noticeably from earlier research, likewise we could not see any differences in our results relating to the respondents, their year of birth, sex, civilian levels and whether they had children or not. Further the results showed that people born in the 1940s are a generation that wants to be independent for as long as possible and that they did not see age as an obstacle in the community with other people, they meant that it is common interests that bring people together as opposed to age. What worried people born in the 1940s were that the health can fail and that they may not have their needs satisfied in the future.
