Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between loyalty and skills, and if this varies between countries. The analysis includes specific and general skills, as well as initial and continuing skill development. Skills as an independent variable is derived from the Varieties of Capitalism theory, which focuses on institutional differences from a corporate perspective. Six countries are divided into either coordinated or liberal market economies and examined, using ISSP survey data from 2005. According to the result, liberal market economies demonstrate a stronger loyalty than the coordinated, thereby strengthening one of the hypotheses. However, this result could not be attributed to the differences in skills between the product market regimes. The conclusion was therefore that other aspects need to be examined to fully explain the phenomenon of loyalty.
