Sammanfattning: One third of all waste in Sweden is produced by the construction sector, excluding the waste from the mining industry. Accordingly, there is an enormous potential for the building sectorto save resources more efficiently. At the end of 2015, the EU-commission adopted the Circular Economy Package, which proposes an improved waste management for the construction sector. Incineration and landfill must be excluded as alternatives for waste management in order to create more circular flows. Instead, we need to find a way to createa new life of consumed products to reduce the amount of waste. This master thesis is developed in cooperation the research project “Circular product flowsin the construction sector – reuse of building materials in industrial scale”, which started in 2017. The project is led by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and focuses on creating conditions for increased reuse of interiors like ceiling and glass walls when performing local adaptions in office-, commerce- and service buildings. The aim of this thesisis to investigate how development of building components and their fasteners could favor anincreased reuse. In this thesis are qualitative methods used for research purposes. Semi-structured interviewshave been held with selected manufactures and suppliers of acoustic ceilings, carpet tiles, glass walls, and luminaires. Interviews have also been held with a deconstruction worker, architect and a building company with experience of reusing components. These interviews are the main method for data collection. A literature review and research on the web is done to give an overview of the current status of reuse in the construction sector. The result and analysis, conducted from the interviews, comprises descriptions of fastening methods of selected example products. The advantages and disadvantages of each product, when it comes to reuse, is described. In conclusion, all of the example products have good opportunities to be reused since their fixings can be considered flexible. The main challenge, when it comes to reuse of building components, is the question of quality and logistics. Thecompanies Moelven Modus, Ogeborg and Ecophon are already using their own strategies togive their products a longer lifecycle, but not all suppliers have the same ambitions today. Thus, to investigate and to implement a reuse of building components is far from a matter ofcourse. There are still challenges in finding solutions that make it possible for circular flows. Lastly, developers in the construction sector and the manufacturing of building components need stronger incitements to invest in an increased reuse of consumed products within the near future.
