Sammanfattning: The urbanization process today places high demands on our city planners to find the best practices and solutions for the transportation systems in our growing and crowded cities. The bike is seen as one of these solutions, but if the bike will have a functional role in our cities, we need to create accessible and available bicycle networks. This paper is based on a case study of Lund, a city where the bike is one of the main means of transport. By looking at how cyclists and the municipality of Lund looks at accessibility and availability in the city’s bicycle network as well as the consistency and differences that exist between the cyclists and the municipality’s view upon this matter, we want to see how an established "bicycle city" works in the aspects mentioned above. The paper also examines how the accessibility and availability of the city's current bicycle network can be improved. The material for the study is collected through questionnaires and interviews, but also through an analysis of the municipality’s planning documents. The results are analysed using theories about people's role in the urban space, mobility, planning theory and technical oriented guides for bicycle planning. The results of the study shows that both the cyclists and the municipality are relatively satisfied with the accessibility and availability of Lund’s bicycle network, but there are many opportunities for improvement. The main difference is the view of the city centre of Lund, where many cyclists identifies shortcomings in the accessibility and availability. Finally, the analysis shows that the biggest improvement that can be done to improve the accessibility and availability in the cycling network of Lund is to create more space for cyclists and bicycle traffic in the city.
