Sammanfattning: The aim with this study was to examine how students of different gender perceived aspects of femininity respectively masculinity, sexuality and violence in sports. The study’s method was quantitative since the intention was to reach a larger population of students to be able to draw conclusions about tendencies and patterns amongst the respondents. The students’ perceptions has been acquired through questionnaires where they needed to take stand. The results that has been generated through this studyhas been analysed with Raewyn Connell’s (2005) theory about hegemonic masculinity and different types of masculinity. Our results showed that men don’t recognize disparagement about women and non-heterosexuals in sports in higher extent than women do. Our study also indicated that men tend to accept violence as a natural and biological part of being male and agree that sports should teach a person to handle pain more than women think. The hypothesis that men tend not to recognizedisparagement about women in sports in greater extent than women and the hypothesis that mentend to accept violence in a greater extent in sports than women were both found valid since the majority of the questions in the questionnaire that concerned these fields were statistically significant. The hypothesis that men tend not to recognize disparagement about non-heterosexuals in sports in agreater extent than women were not found valid since only two out of four questions in the questionnaire were statistically significant. The differences in how men and women perceived issues where women and non-heterosexuals are depreciated are relevant for professions, such as social workers, that work against male violence and threats that especially affect these groups.
