Svenskt deltagande i militära interventioner - en teoretisk analys

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

Sammanfattning: Although Sweden is a relative small state by comparison they have participated in a large number of military interventions through out the past decades. This study investigates the motives and forces that drive Sweden to participate in this controversial activity. The study will use a theoretical approach from an international relations perspective to analyze three different cases. The basis for the study is the hypothesis that social constructivism is the main motivator with regards to decision making on military interventions. In order to test the validity of the hypothesis neo-realism and neo-liberal institutionalism will be used in comparison. The cases have been chosen based on their divergent nature with regards to geography, political rule and more in order to achieve a wide empirical range. To further achieve a comprehensive presentation the military interventions will also be studied from a foreign security policy perspective looking back on what has shaped the present politics of Sweden. The study will show that Sweden has kept a clear course with regards to motives.
