Sammanfattning: The women fought to become citizens on the same terms as men. The citizen was earlier a person of the male sex. The institution of marriage has been regarded as the principal basis for the subordination of women. Until 1921, women were completely excluded from the political right to vote. Citizenship was for a long time intimately associated with social affiliation to a position or class. Voting rights were denied many people, but as a group, only women, slaves or serfs who stood outside the community. The essay aims to examine the association of women´s struggle for equal voting rights and civil rights. I want to examine opportunities/constraints that the FKPR had, and how its activities looked in Örebro. I want to find out how local opinion and the local political elite saw the FKPR and voting rights issue. My questions in the essay are:1. What conditions, possibilities and constraints had the women in Örebro in order to advance the struggle on the road to civil rights?2. How did the local community see the women´s struggles and the female suffrage question?3. How prepared FKPR its struggle and who were seen as allies and opponents? In the paper presented mobilization theory and also theoretical concepts namely, nationality and gender, and through these concepts and theoretical starting-point the results of the survey are analyzed. To carry out the study was elected a source critical, qualitative method. In my research I use material from Örebro archives center, Örebro City Archives and Örebro University Library. The sources that I examine are “Örebro FKPR´s protocol-books 1903-1921”, “Örebro City Council´s protocol 1885-1909” and 1910-1921”, and “member statistics 1904-1915”. I also use three different kinds of local newspapers in Örebro, namely Nerikes Allehanda, Örebro kuriren, and Örebro dagblad. In Örebro was the objective of the philanthropic work that wealthier women would educate working women. This led to an interest in the voting rights issue and in party politics. Women's political struggle in Örebro started its activities in the KFUK in 1893 and the idea was that women from different classes could unite around a common ideal woman. In Vita Bandet women got the opportunity to go outside the home in new roles. The struggle of women in FKPR Örebro lasted 1903-1921. During these years FKPR sought to give women increased knowledge and strong social sense of responsibility.
