Sammanfattning: This work compares the legal protection of the traditional Scanian earth-banks with the legal protection of the two very similar landscape elements stonewalls and willow-banks through literature studies. It does so through the lens of the cultural and biological value that the three elements have. The Scanian earth-banks, once found in abundance in Sweden's most southern region are nowadays far more rare in a landscape where agricultural efficiency and mono-cultures are favored above anything else. In this work, which bases itself on the theory and history of Swedish cultural environment care, the cultural and biological values of the Scanian earth-banks, stonewalls and willow-banks are being listed and then compared to each other to figure out if earth-banks are more or less valuable in the landscape than the other two. The legal protection of the three elements are then listed in order to find out whether or not any eventual difference in legal protection is proportionate to the eventual differences in cultural and biological values. The result is then discussed, once again based on the theory and history of Swedish culture environment care and comes to the conclusion that the legal protection of the Scanian earth-banks is highly disproportionate to their actual cultural and biological values, especially compared to the legal protection of the similar elements stonewalls and willow-banks. In the final discussions of this work, this disproportion is discussed based on the formerly mentioned values and the discussion also takes up how the legal protection of the Scanian earth-banks can be improved.
