Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för modevetenskap

Sammanfattning: Congratulations! You have a new match - a qualitative study about the meaning of clothes on Tinder is a bachelor thesis about how people can communicate via clothes on the dating application Tinder. This thesis analyses how clothes communicate and give a glimpse of the identity of the person in the images. Through Erving Goffman and his theory on roles in everyday situations the thesis analyses the online-roles that are acted out in the appearance on the application. The aim of the thesis is to investigate how clothes worn in profile pictures on Tinder communicates and if clothes symbolize identity. It also brings up the question about the roles that are played online and if they are trustworthy. To answer these questions the thesis is based on five semi-structured interviews and five dating handbooks have been used to give the empirical material of the study more depth. Four of the interviews are with experienced Tinder users and the last one is with a so called dating expert. The thesis concludes and argues that clothes do communicate but not as a spoken language but as a cultural language. It also argues that roles are being acted out on Tinder and to make the role and the character trustworthy the clothes worn in the profile pictures are of great importance.
