Rasism i digital form - en enkätstudie om kränkningar på Facebook

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Institutionen för psykologi

Sammanfattning: Harassment on Facebook is common and comes in different forms. This study focus on expressions of hatred online that offends people based on their ethnic background. The questions at issue cover differences in behaviour on Facebook between more or less racist people and between people who strongly identify themselves respectively not that strongly identify themselves with Swedes. The study was performed with a survey based on the answers of 116 people, of which the majority are students at Lund University and Malmö University. The results showed that less racist people, and people who don’t identify strongly with Swedes, were more willing to report comments on Facebook with racist content. Coherent with this result, the study also found that less racist people got more provoked by, and thought that racist comments on Facebook were more unethical. A difference was also found between those who identify strongly respectively not that strongly with Swedes regarding to what extent they actually had reported anything offending to Facebook. In general, the study indicates that helping behaviour, in the shape of reporting a person or a comment on Facebook, isn’t that common. The overall reason for this is that people simply don’t consider the possibility.
