Sammanfattning: A part of the project of transforming the worn down medieval fortress Glimmingehus into a tourist attraction for the people of the 20th century, was to dig out the once filled in moat surrounding it. This very labour intensive project did not only result in a nostalgic atmosphere but also a large amount of fairly well preserved finds, since the moat had once been used as a rubbish dump. A part of those finds consists of fragmented glass objects, that are representations of the social status of different periods of usage in the history of the fortress and the farmstead surrounding it. By putting the information these glass shards possess’ together with historical texts about the people that have owned Glimmingehus through time, we can get a picture of how the manor have been used and how it’s social status might have changed. This study aims to see if it’s possible to affirm or contradict historical archaeologist Anders Ödmans hypothesis about a fall in the status of Glimmingehus right after the death of the constructor Jens Holgersen. To be able to test this theory, in spite of the glass finds not being recorded together with any sufficient stratigrafical information and therefore having a wide dating, I have divided the owners and their usage of the manor into three significant periods. In period 1 the owners have lived at the site part-time, and have used the fortress, for example for extravagant parties, wich yielded a certain amount of exclusive glassobjects. In period 2, the owners have probably lived at the farmstead, but have moved out of the fortress and only used the farm houses. From this period we still can see alot of glass vessles, but slightly of another kind. In period 3, the amount of glass objects have increased along with the evolvement of the glass production at the same time as their types are much more associated with an everyday type of usage of spirits.
