Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för folkhälso- och vårdvetenskap

Sammanfattning: Aim: To find out what nurses at a hospital in central Sweden are experiencing as good care and what they believe is needed to achieve good care. To examine what barriers exist and how the work environment plays into good nursing care. Method: Descriptive and exploratory qualitative design with semi-structured interviews as the data collection method. Seven nurses, all women between the ages of 25 and 52 were interviewed at a hospital in central Sweden. An interview analysis model was used to analyze the results. Result: It was found that the nurses had similar perceptions of what good care was. Important points were availability for time and staffing, good patient interaction and individual based care. Barriers that existed were lack of time, poor work environment and understaffing. Conclusions: All the informants had similar views on what good care was for them and what they felt was needed to accomplish good care, what was missing and how the work environment played a role in good care despite different work experience, age and workplaces. Further studies are needed to find out how the deficiencies can be corrected.
