Sammanfattning: The questions and the debate on whether or not adoption should be permitted to homosexuals are widespread and controversial. Looking into the guidelines in international conventions, one will find a high amount of ambiguity and vagueness in the formulations and the rhetoric within these conventions on this subject. While the conventions arbitrate a message of equality, homosexuals are often denied rights and privileges of family and family-life on the same conditions as heterosexuals. Thus homosexual adoption- and family rights vary from country to country depending on how far each individual state has come in recognising and clarifying rights and benefits, as well as it’s norms and attitudes, toward homosexuals. This paper tries to analyze homosexual’s rights and conditions to adopt and forming a family by diving into the historic development of homosexual rights and by analyzing the contents of international conventions that define children’s rights and rights such as equality and a respected private life, as they are stated within their respective conventions.
