Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Södertörns högskola/Socialt arbete

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this essay is to illustrate how the public conversation about the online campaign #metoo was conducted on the social media platform Twitter in the fall of 2017. Using qualitative content analysis as a method, we studied tweets containing #metoo by identifying how support, criticism and other prominent messages were formulated in the online campaign. Our results showed that support and criticism under #metoo were expressed in many different ways. We identified that support was shown to vulnerable women and the campaign itself. We also identified that several individuals supported the fact that certain groups of men has been publicly accused for committing sexual crimes. The criticism of the campaign has partly shown a resistance against feminists and feminism. We have also found criticism against that white men has been accused for sexual crimes, where these writers mean that the actual perpetrators are of different ethnic or cultural backgrounds. Another criticism has also been raised against the campaign where several writers claim that the campaign has received a defected focus. These writers claim that #metoo has become a platform for publicly accusing individuals, instead of concentrating the campaign on sexual violence and harassment as a social problem.
