Sammanfattning: Gender equality is a major part of the Swedish 2011 curriculum for upper-secondary school and is one of the major subjects in the modern society. Even so, there is almost no previous research about how equality is discussed in school. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how gender equality is discussed in upper secondary school in Sweden and raises the questions about how gender equality is interpreted and used by teachers as a part of the curriculum. The foundation of this paper relies on interviews with six upper secondary school teachers. The result and analysis show that gender equality can be interpreted and understood in different ways, namely as equal rights and obligations, feminism and personal commitment, representation and formal guidance. The most common subjects that teachers discussed in their lectures were questions of economy, labor and representation. Finally, the most common way to teach gender equality was to use it in the everyday teaching.
