Sammanfattning: This report deals with handling and interim storage of soils which are planned tobe reused in construction works. The types of soils that are dealt with are gravel, topsoil and sand. The thesis work has been carried out in collaboration with Skanska Sverige Väg och Anläggning Sydost. The main goal is to find an area for using to store soil in between projects. Studies of laws and regulations regarding exploitation and storage of soil has led to a theoretical background upon which the report is based. Background informationhas also been gathered in meetings with the employees at Tekniska Kontoret and Länsstyrelsen in Jönköping. On the basis of literature studies results, a general template has been developed for which desirable properties a possible location should meet. The model was applied to find a number of possible options in the vicinity of Jönköping. A deeper study of the area that we found most suitable have been implemented. Among other things, a superstructure design for the storage area and an estimate of the costs for the preparation of a storage area was made. An economic comparison whether it is worthwhile for Skanska to have their own storage area versus purchasing new material has been made. Our investigation resulted in a proposal located about 2 km south of the city center of Jönköping. The area is a flat surface without significant vegetation and with an approximate area of 7 400 m2. The location is easily accessible by larger vehicles and is not located in the vicinity of residential buildings and residents whom could be disturbed by activities on the ground. Preparation of the workplace, in our calculation would cost about 1,5 million SEK. Our comparison shows that it’s more economical to hold and operate a storage area, and reuse soils compared to purchasing new soils.
