Framställningen av curlingföräldrar i media - Innehållsanalys av tv-programmet Ung och bortskämd

Sammanfattning: The aim of our study was: to analyze how the phenomena “curlingföräldrar” (curling parents) is produced in the television program "Ung och bortskämd" (Young and spoiled), and more generally to interpret this social phenomenon from the media's point of view. The study was based on the following questions: How are curling parents portrayed in the tv-show "Ung och bortskämd", how does the show present parent-youth relationship, how does the show present normal and deviant behavior. The method of the study was qualitative content analysis. The primary empiricad material for this study was the tv-program "Ung och bortskämd". Our theoretical framework was aspects of socialization according to Berger & Luckmann and aspects of self representation, shame and confirmation according to Goffman. The main conclusion was that the parents were presented as trying to explain away the various reasons why their children were "spoiled", instead of accepting the criticism. The representation of the relationship between the parents and the young adults was mostly that of conflict. Parents are shown to overcompensate with services, for various reasons and therefore exaggerate much of the basic care. The program presents that they treat their young like teenagers rather than adults that they really are or at least should be.
