Sammanfattning: This study is mainly centered around the use of study materials and its presence in the swedish upper secondary school curriculum from a historic perspective regarding its change and development through three different curriculums from the 1970s. The studied curriculums are Lgy 70, Lpf 94 and Lgy 11 from the respective years of the 20th century, along with a revision of Lgy 11 made in 2017 to include digital materials as a mandatory part of the curriculum. These three curriculums are the source material used in the analysis. Through the use of qualitative text analysis as the method and political history as a theoretical starting point the main question is studied. With the main question being: how have the use and presentation of study materials in the swedish upper secondary school curriculums changed since 1970? Followed by secondary questions regarding mainly the history subject and the views of knowledge presented within the curriculums. The study shows how the history subject in the swedish upper secondary school have changed over roughly 40 years alongside with the use of study materials in the curriculum. A main point of interest to understanding this change is through the understanding of the swedish decentralization of the 1970s with the aims to allow local governing instead of state governing control over the education with the state merely supervising the results of the education. This study concludes that the prevalence of study materials and their space in the curriculum has to almost all extent vanished, but with the 2017 revision to a small extent reappeared in the shape of digital tools.
