Sammanfattning: This thesis uses a hermeneutic text analysis from a queer perspective to analyse Suzanne Collins The hunger games and the religious text Book of Ruth. This has been done to examine if the texts can be used to address the Swedish high school’s values about gender and identity. It was found that Katniss Everdeen has a static male gender and sometimes a parallell female gender. Ruth on the other hand has a dynamic gender that varies along with the gender of the characters that she interacts with. Common for the two main characters is that their gender consequently can be understood within the heterosexual matrix. The results of analysing the texts indicate that there is a variety of gender constructions to be found when reading texts that are different from one another. This leads to the conclusion that students and teachers should read and talk about the texts. The teacher should be able to match the students level of knowledge when introducing the theories.Nyckelord: Genus,
