Hur kan Facebook förstås utifrån demokratinormer? En normativ utvärderingsanalys av Facebooks funktioner.

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

Sammanfattning: Facebook is a global phenomenon with only a few previous studies. This study has therefore with the help from Robert A. Dahl’s five criterions for democracy studied if Facebook is violating the Swedish democratic standards. A sixth criteria has also been created for this purpose. Some of the previous studies about Facebook and technique based websites have been the main source for information. However, newspapers and Facebook’s own website have also been helpful in the gathering of material. A combination of evaluation analysis and normative analysis have been used to study some of the different functions of Facebook, for example the filter phenomena and how Facebook is handling the personal information of their users. The result was not clear since one of the criterions revealed that Facebook support the democratic standards while two other criterions showed that Facebook is violating the democratic standards. The three remaining criterions didn’t show any clear result but was instead a mix of violation and support depending on the observer’s perspective. The conclusion is that Facebook is violating the democratic standards.
