Suderkvie – en plats med ett glömt minne? : En mikrostudie av lokalen Suderkvie på Gotland.

Detta är en Master-uppsats från Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för arkeologi och antik historia

Sammanfattning: This thesis aims to present a micro-study of the site Suderkvie in Grötlingbo parish on south part of the island of Gotland. Due to advanced pottery from the Funnel Beaker Culture that was found in close connection to a cist grave and other burials is it likely that the place has had some sort of ritual meaning already during the early Neolithic period and onwards. The site is discussed on the basis of stratigraphic and spatial studies as well as modelling of the surrounding landscape, to get an insight to the environmental and cultural aspects of this site. On the basis of 14C-datings and the pottery from the site it is argued that it was first used during the late early Neolithic period and it might have been a dolmen on, or close to the site. However, the burials at the site date to the late Neolithic and, the stone cist on the site has been dated to the Bronze Age period II-III. A theoretical approach is made by debating the meaning in the light of memory and forgetting of Suderkvie over at least 1500 years as a place showing different aspects of the ritual life of, amongst others, the Funnel Beaker Culture’s society.
