Sammanfattning: AbstractThe issue of Palestinian statehood has been debated for several decades, not only between Israel and Palestinians, but also on an international level. What are the criteria used in the debate to consider whether Palestine should be considered a state or not? In this paper, I examine how members of the European Union, more specifically the United Kingdom and Sweden, are debating in this very question. I have used the statements that both United Kingdom and Swedish governments have published on their official website and analyzed it with the four criteria of Malcolm Shaw's definition on declarative theory of statehood. One of the findings indicate that United Kingdom and Sweden have different views on Palestine's territory and government which means that Sweden view Palestine as a sovereign state and United kingdom does not.
