Sammanfattning: In this master thesis it's concluded that Swedish municipalities performs various traffic data collections in recurring measurement points annually and beside those complementing measurements are done at additional areas of interest. The study shows that most often traditional measurement methods, like pneumatic tubes, are used since they are considered reliable and accurate. Pneumatic tubes, radars and inductive loops also have the advantage that they are cheap unlike the more advanced equipment studied in this report. But methods like floating car data (FCD), video analysis and car plate recognition have the advantage that they can measure other parameters than the traditional vehicle speed, vehicle type and vehicle flow. This can for example be of interest in more detailed studies or if pedestrians and cyclists are to be measured. This has been seen to be the case in multiple municipalities especially lately when greater focus has been on sustainability and none motorized vehicles and as modern measurement technology has become more available. The use of collected traffic data in the municipalities is many and is for example used to monitor traffic growth, as basis for local plans, different types of pre- and post-studies, capacity calculation, traffic simulations, noise simulations and air quality simulations
