Axelrehabilitering med fokus på Serratus Anterior : en systematisk litteraturstudie av EMG-studier
Sammanfattning: Aim The aim of this study was to, through a systematic literature review of evidence based electromyographic (EMG) studies, identify specific exercises for rehabilitation of the Serratus Anterior muscle. The research questions were: ”Which exercises can be recommended to use to activate the Serratus Anterior?” and ”Are the recommended exercises altered between studies on individuals with and without shoulder dysfunction?”. Method The method was a systematic literature review. First the study aim and research questions were formulated. A research protocol was then formulated with inclusion and exclusion criteria and search terms. The terms EMG and Serratus Anterior and exercise were used in the following databases: Embase, Pubmed and Cinahl. Included articles were analysed and extracted data was collected in a data protocol with specific items to match the study aim. A checklist was used to evaluate study quality before data analysis and interpretation of results. Results A total of 19 articles were included in the study from which 29 specific exercises, or variations of the same exercise, were identified as recommended to activate the Serratus Anterior. Only one study showed significant differences in activation of the Serratus Anterior between individuals with and without shoulder dysfunction. Conclusions The function of the Serratus Anterior is important for optimal shoulder kinematics. This review can assist the physical therapist in choosing rehabilitation exercises to activate the Serratus Anterior. The exercise that most studies recommended was Push-Up Plus. This review can not identify differences between recommendations between individuals with and without shoulder dysfunction, due to the low number of studies that included this perspective.
