DEVELOPMENT AND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY: Many Theories, One World

Sammanfattning: Abstract Development and security have historically fashioned distinct discourses. More recently, they have been inevitably linked both in discourse and policy, having as a consequence the so-called development–security nexus. The goal of this paper is to examine the construction of notions and the establishment and consolidation of the discourses that the main theories that shape the field of Development Studies and International Security have created across time. In so doing, the first part of this paper will try to explain how theories that explain development and underdevelopment understand International Security. The second part introduces the term Human Security. Consequently, this work will discuss if the theories that explain development and underdevelopment have been important to the improvement of the Human Security paradigm.
