Sammanfattning: The subject of this thesis is listed building protected buildings in Västra Götaland County, in the category Industry in the National Heritage Board building registry, bebyggelseregistret in Swedish. The aim of the thesis is to examine the buildings that fall into the category of industrial buildings in the registry. This paper also intends to examine the motives behind the heritage building decisions and cultural values that the building memories attributed. The study consists of a qualitative study of the heritage building decisions within the boundary. Materials collection was performed by an "Advanced Search" in the archive database in the buildings reg-istry where searches are possible through different divisions. Selection criteria consisted of individual listed buildings within the category of industrial buildings confined to the county. The result of the study is that the surveyed historic buildings focuses on buildings and environments that tells of the industrial period from the late 1800s until the early 1900s. The food industry, textile industry and the fishing industry are the sectors that are most represented in the survey. By respondents as those listed building decision is considered 66.6% of respondents decision justifications satisfactory and 33.3% of the justifications considered unsatisfactory. Criteria for a justification been equated satisfaction has been the justification text identifies and explains the object's cultural values and the driving lyrics can be con-sidered to contribute to the future care and maintenance of the historic building. The survey shows that all heritage building decision lacking justification has been made either by the provincial government in Älvsborgs county or by the provincial government in Skaraborg County. Although all previous state owned historic buildings in the survey are in the group with inadequate justification.
