Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study was to examine how social workers who work with assessing financial aid in the social services experience their dual role as supporter and controller when they suspect their clients of social assistance fraud. Even how this affects the relationship with the clients is studied. To conduct this study, I chose a qualitative method in the form of interviews. The selection was targeted. I have interviewed six social workers in a municipality in Sweden. The theoretical framework was the theory about human service organization and role theory. The results of the study show that social workers feel that it is difficult to be both supportive and controlling and they become more controlling when they suspect that their clients are cheating. They think that a control at work is important to prevent and detect benefit fraud. The results also show how they are doing to preserve a good and working relationship with the client. The social workers mean that they may have a difficulty being supportive when they suspect that a client is cheating but they feel that they can still be supportive in their role. Keywords: social worker, supporting, controlling, social assistans fraud, relationsship, human service organizations.
