Sammanfattning: Subdivision surfaces are used in computer graphics to make rough 3D models smoother. Many different refinement schemes have been suggested. This study compares Loop subdivision with √3 subdivision in regards to realistic appearance of the results produced under limited computational times. A user study is performed as a user-centric alternative to the more commonly used numerical analysis or visual inspection. The study finds that the √3 refinement scheme produces more realistic-looking results than Loop subdivision. Results remain consistent over models with more complex topology but become less pronounced as face count increases.
