Sammanfattning: This study aims to contribute to the debate concerning parenthood among persons with intellectual disabilities. Its focal point is the analysis of present discourses within the field of habilitation concerning on questions regarding how to relate to and work with thoughts of a future parenthood among clients with intellectual disabilities. The study argues that while the general attitudes in society regarding intellectual disability has shifted during the past decades to an advocacy of civil rights it is obvious this shift has only to a lesser extent made its way into the discussion of and the attitudes on their rights to parenthood. In the analyzed texts, consisting four semi-structured interviews with five social workers currently working within habilitation facilities, two main discourses on the question of how to talk on the issue of their work with thoughts regarding a longing to become parents among people with intellectual disabilities appear within a habilitation discourse; one that is based on a listening/supportive approach and one that is based on a more informative/persuasive approach.
