Sammanfattning: The requirement for battery chargers that can charge different battery-types that have different chemical content has increased in recent years. A charger designed to charge lithium-based batteries cannot be used to charge nickel-based batteries. This is mainly due to the different chemistry of the batteries. The different chemical contents of the different batteries cause different characteristics of each individual battery. This means for example that the lithium battery temperature varies differently from the temperature of nickel-based batteries, and each battery-type must be charged with a specific charging-voltage and charging-current, which means that each charger has to be designed based on the characteristics of that particular battery, which means that the charger designed for a specific battery-type cannot be used to charge other types of batteries. During this project, the idea was to design a charger that could charge different battery-types based on the C / 10 upload method. This required that the charger should be able to identify the battery-type before charging it with the right charge-voltage and charge-current. To determine the battery-type, battery-identification was based on the voltage parameter of the battery. This enabled battery identification due to the characteristics of the different batteries whose voltage did not overlap each other in any way, regardless of whether they were completely discharged, partially discharged or fully charged. The charger designed during the project was microcontrolled. This gave the opportunity to implement new charging-algorithms when needed. The batteries used had low nominal voltages, namely 1.2V nickel-metal hybrid battery and a 3.7V lithium-ion battery. The product was also thought to be a basis for further development
