Kompo - Ett brädspel som verktyg för att komponera musik
Sammanfattning: During my education in music and pedagogy I have composed music, and through that developed my knowledge in ear, music theory and composition. During my composing processes I have sometimes stopped composing due to different obstacles. With this study, I have designed and created the board game Kompo as a tool for students to learn to compose music. The aim of this boardgame is that the players create a musical composition that has the length of two bars. I want to give students the possibility to increased knowledge and experience of composing music and understanding for musical terms and concepts. In this study, five groups of secondary school students played the boardgame Kompo. The selected students were from the arts programme and had taken the course Gehörs- och musiklära 1 to get to know more about their experiences of playing the board game Kompo I also conducted qualitative interviews, a video observation and a participative observation. The students thought that Kompo was plainly designed and that the frames and rules together with the mechanics of chance made it a joyful learning and instructive to play. The result also showed that the board game Kompo support other learning process aspects, not necessarily related to music, such as collaboration, communication, argumentation, discussion and imitation.
